Steps To Accept

For Student Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans

Step 1:  Review and Accept/Decline Your Financial Aid Awards

All Eastern Kentucky University students awarded Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan or Federal Work Study must log into myEKU to accept/decline those awards. The following are the steps to take to review your awards.

1. Log into myEKU.
2. Select the Award Offer tab.
3. Review awards and accept/reduce/decline following the instructions.

If at any time you wish to have your award changed, you should contact Big E Central.

Step 2:  Complete Loan Entrance Counseling

• Go to the Federal Student Aid website.
• Login with your student FSA ID and password.
• Select ‘Complete Aid Process’, then ‘Complete Entrance Counseling.’
• Choose ‘Start’ to begin Entrance Counseling.
• Add EKU by searching for Kentucky, then ‘Eastern Kentucky University.’
• Select ‘Notify This School.’
• Choose the appropriate Student Type and ‘Continue.’
• Read all information and answer questions.

Step 3:  Sign a Master Promissory Note

• Go to the Federal Student Aid website.
• Login with your student FSA ID and password.
• Choose ‘Complete Aid Process’, then ‘Complete Master Promissory Note.’
• Select ‘MPN for Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans.’
• Provide requested information.

Note: When signing your MPN you will be asked to provide two references with different U.S. addresses. You will need to provide their name, address and telephone number.

For Parent PLUS Loans

To accept the Federal Parent PLUS Loan, your PARENT must complete the steps listed below:

1. Log in at the Federal Student Aid website using parent information (parent FSA ID and password).
2. Select ‘Apply for a Parent PLUS loan’ under ‘Parent.’
3. Select ‘Direct PLUS Loan Application for Parents.’
4. Provide requested information.
5. When prompted for award year, select ‘2022-2023.’
6. If approved, choose ‘Complete a Master Promissory Note for a Parent PLUS Loan.’
7. Provide requested information.
